The New England Young Writers’ Conference (NEYWC) is a four day writing-focused workshop for high school sophomores and juniors in New England and from around the country.  The long weekend is packed with writing seminars, workshops, readings, and opportunities to meet fellow young writers.

Hosted at the Bread Loaf Campus at Middlebury College, students will work with real writers to gain inspiration and develop skills.

High School English teachers or guidance counselors may nominate up to 5 students from their school to participate in the conference.  Up to two may be selected. 

If you are sponsoring teacher you can submit all of your student's applications through your own submittable account. Once you finish an application you can go back to the start and submit the next student application. This is helpful if students don't have access to a computer or to a credit card or paypal account. 

Admission to NEYWC is based on the quality of writing in these manuscripts, as judged by adult committee members, a professional writer, and readers from the schools which sponsor the Conference.

As the sponsor of a NEYWC applicant we would like to invite you to apply to attend the Conference as a chaperone. Applications accepted late February.

As a chaperone, you participate in all Conference activities, as well as attend a prose or poetry workshop designed just for you. To the twenty-five teachers selected we promise a stimulating weekend. There is a nominal fee for meals and lodging.

A chaperone’s responsibilities include:
• dormitory supervision, including readings and curfew check-in for 15-20 students • attendance at Conference activities, including evenings
• on-campus residence from 3:00 PM Thursday  until 11:00 AM on Sunday.

Although chaperones are selected based on dormitory needs, we are especially interested in teachers who are writers themselves. Sponsors with attending students are given preference but are we open to all applications.
